Help us with the ceiling fan installation with remote?
We have three wires coming out of the ceiling...red, white and black. We have the remote unit with two wires black and whire a c coming out of one side and the other side of the remote we have black, white and blue coming out of the remote. We have a dimmer switch on the wall. We have tried getting the fan to work for hours and can not get it. The instructions do not mention the red wire that is coming out fo the ceiling.I know have the ceiling fan working but I hooked up red from ceiling to both blue wires. all 4 blacks together and whites together and greens together. I can use the pull chains to operate fan but I am haing no luck with the remote control controlling the fan.Our new home was prewired for light and or fan. we only had a light for the past 5 years. About 2 years ago we installed a dimmer switch for the light. Now we are trying to install a fan with a light with a remotw control. The only way I can get anything to work is using the red wire which is hot all the time but I must have something wired wrong at the switch too.

What is a legitimate charge for ceiling fan installation?
I have a ceiling fan that I like to hire someone to install for me. The ceiling is already pre wired for it so I don't need any additional electrical connections. All I need is someone to put the ceiling fan up and make sure the switch on the wall works to turn the fan on What is the going rate for installing ceiling fans? How much do electricians usually charge? I don't want to overpay, but I want the job done right and not look for the cheapest price labor and get subpar service. Thanks I just called Home Depot and they charge $99, and Lowe's is " starting at $105 and up depending on factors" . Btw, I live in California. Don't know if that matters much.

Help with wiring during ceiling fan installation
I am trying to install a ceiling fan. Fan has 4 wires sticking out incl neutral .The ceiling has 7 wires coming out. 3 are bunched together, another 3 are bunched together while there is one that is separate. When I hooked up the fan, i connected the two hot wires fan and light from the fan unit to one set of 3 ceiling wires together while I connected the white wire from the fan unit to the other set of 3 wires. and left the single wire coming form ceiling along. The fan and light works fine EXCEPT that i cannot control the operation from the wall switch and can only turn on off the fan light from the unit itself. What did i do wrong? Does the single wire from the ceiling come into play? how?The four wires from the fan are green, blue.black and green.green is neutralblack blue are hotgreen is neutralJim W, you mean take the black from fan unit and connect it to the single wire coming from the ceiling?I meant to say green is groundblack blue are hotwhite is neutralThe entire problem would not be there if the wiring was not that bad wires coming from the ceiling . The insulation on the wires has worn off and i have put the sleeves on them.Of course the sleeves are of same color and i cannot identify which wire is which.

Need help the a pre-ceiling fan installation?
I want to install a ceiling fan in my apartment swagging it The apartment I live in use to have a ceiling fan already, but they reassigned me to another one to do remodeling and took it down. If I was 100 % sure my ceiling was drywall, I'd go ahead and outline my ceiling box and get a drywall saw and take it from there. The problem is my ceiling feels this may sound weird too hard to be drywall. Usually drywall has a lightweight, hollow feel to it. My ceiling does not. Also, in the area where my ceiling fan use to be...it looks like they just screwed it in directly to ceiling, I want to do it right and do it with a bracket. The fan isn't more than 35 pounds. In case my ceiling isn't drywall, could I just install a box to the ceiling and then put my fan up?Pics i14.photobucket.com albums a308 ChillinInFL06 007.jpgi14.photobucket.com albums a308 ChillinInFL06 005.jpgAlso, the apartment is at least 30 years old, and the fan I'm getting is lowes.com lowes lkn?action productDetail& productId 20776 1811 CC52WW5CHope that helps

Need help with ceiling fan installation.?
Pretty close to hiring somebody but wanted to check here as a last resort. Trying to install Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan & Light. It is wired so that each has its own switch. There is a standard and a close to celing mounting option. I am attempting close to ceiling. The first part that is confusing me is that the " Downrod and ball assembly" that is only used in the standard installation has the green ground wire. If i'm not using this what do I do with the green ground wire from the mounting plate? Second, the instructions tell me to connect the receivers white wire to the outlet box's white wire, no problem. Then it says " connect the receiver red or black wire to the supply black hot wire using a wire nut" . Now the receiver has a white and red so I got that but the outlet box has a white, red, and black wire. If the white wire is neutral & the black one is " hot" , what is the red one and what do i with it? Thanks

Ceiling fan installation problems / Electrical?
Hello all. I have installed a ceiling fan with a light. I have wired the two wires from the fan and light together and then wired those to the hot wire in the ceiling. The other wire from the fan is wired to the nuetral ceiling wire. No lights or fan works. I removed it and hard wired the same configuration to an extension cord I had cut and then plugged it into a wall socket and both the fan and light work. I used a tester prongs with a light to test the wires in the ceiling and they show power, but when I hooked the fan back up neither the light or fan work.,.Please does anyone have any suggestions,..PS,.,.the ceiling wires were hooked to a light previously and the light worked and the wires are controlled from an older dimmer switch. Thank you in advance for your advice,..

Ceiling fan installation...?
I installed a simple ceiling fan and it is sitting at an angle. Apparently the hole in which the mounting bracket in the ceiling sits is too big and the round bracket hangs down out of the ceiling holding the fan at an angle. One side of the fan in flush with the ceiling and the other is about an inch too low. When the fan is on the blade brackets spin really close the the motor cover. There is no access to the attic. Is there any other way to secure the round mounting bracket in the ceiling on the side that is falling out? Is there any way to patch up the hole plaster and make it smaller without this fan eventually vibrating its way through and come crashing down? This is the ceiling fan homedepot.com Lighting Fans Ceiling Fans Accessories Ceiling Fans h d1 N 5yc1vZ1xhcZaryk R 202046539 h d2 ProductDisplay?langId 1& storeId 10051& catalogId 10053

Ceiling Fan Installation?
I would like to install a ceiling fan in my main family room, but here is the dilemma that I have. The ceiling comes to a point in the center of the room. The two opposite walls are angling upward until they meet . I have thought about putting a fan on one side of the angle, but I don't think this will really work well with the room. I was wondering if there is a way to have the fan installed in the center where the two slopes meet? There is a small crawl space above the roo Really small, loaded with insulation . I can't really make out how thick the beam or wood is that runs the center of the ceiling, but I'm wondering if anyone has done anything similar? And if so, was the fan mounted flush with the ceiling? or was there some sort of external mounting box that is fitted to the ceiling angles? Also, I plan to buy a fan with a remote, and run the wires into the next room which has the attic , and wire it for power there, since the set up of the room makes it really hard to run wires for switches or anything. If anyone can give me any suggestions that would be great Thank you.

Ceiling fan installation?
Ok. I've been to several websites and none of them have been helpful, so you guys are my last hope. I know that I could call an electrician, but I just can't afford to.The situation is that I'm trying to install a ceiling fan. This isn't the first one that I've done, but this is the first time that I've run across a problem like this. You see, instead of a single group of wires that are coming out of the ceiling, I've got two. Each bunch has a black wire and a white wire. Also, one bunch as a ground. So what I'm working with, not counting the ceiling fan's 2 black wires2 white wires1 ground. What I need to know is how to properly wire them to my ceiling fan. Don't worry, I already know which is my switch loop and which is my power. Also, I'll be controlling my ceiling fan by both pull chain and by wall switch. This is a light fan combination. One last thing, there is NO red wire nor is there a striped wire. Just two blacks, two whites, and one ground. Thanks for your help

Ceiling fan installation issues -- PLEASE HELP!!!?
I recently switched apartments same complex . I took my ceiling fan from the old apartment where I installed it myself & it worked fine & am trying to install it in my new bedroom. Since my new bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, I had to buy a 2 ft extension rod & a wiring extension kit.My fan has a total of five wires 1 blue, 1 white, 1 black, and 2 ground wires. One ground is connected to the mounting plate and the other's connected to the top of the downrod & hanger ball assembly. The box in my ceiling is just like the one in my old place 1 bare ground, 1 white, 1 black.I swapped downrods & extended the white, black, and blue fan wires through the rod using blue connectors. I connected the two ground wires to the bare ground, the white to the white, and the black & blue to the black. My light works fine... but whenever I try to turn the fan on, it's trips my breaker switch every time What could I be doing wrong?? The fan was working fine last week in the other apartment
