How do you measure a light shade for a hanging light fixture?
Alright, I would like to replace two hanging light fixtures but keep the same shades. The shades are glass and the neck measures 2.25 in. on the inside and 3 in. on the outside. The fixtures I'm looking at buying use shade rings and hold fitter type 2.25 in. shades. Is this the size that I have? Do you measure light fixture shades on the inside diameter or outside diameter on the next top ? Thanks for the help, it's really bugging me.

I am rewiring an antique hanging light fixture with 5 arms, each of which will hold a 60 watt light bulb, base
down in a new socket no problem with that part . My question is, is 18 gauge wire ok for this it is what will easily fit through the arms of the fixture, 16 gauge will not. I could, tho, use the 16 gauge in the middle part of the fixture where the five wires from the arms come together, would I should I do that? Thanks.
What type of hanging light fixture or chandelier would be nice in a bathroom?
It would hang from the ceiling in a corner over a big corner bathtub and it would be the focal point of the room. The ceiling is approx. 10 feet and it's a tray ceiling. It doesn't need to put out much light because it will be in front of two big windows and a lot of sunlight comes in. The house was built 4 years ago so everything is fairly modern and new. White tiles with blue and white tile trim, light blue walls, nickel chrome features, cherry cabinets. Thx for suggestion about nickel chrome.

Installing hanging light fixture w/ no attic?
We have a two story house and would like to hang a chandelier over the dinning table. There is not one currently there, plus there is no attic access. Is there any other way, other than to tear up a lot of the ceiling and notch the beams acroos to the fixture to get electrical wiring to it? My husband is a great electrician and great w drywall as well the problem is the ceiling has a slight texture. From a prvious leak and repair, I know how hard that is to fix so it is not obvious. With the light from a chandelier, it would almost have to be perfect. Any tips, suggestions or things I 've not thought of would be appreciated. Thanks

Can I paint an electrical cord that goes to a hanging light fixture?
My husband and I bought a house that has a beautiful white hanging lamp. The electrical cord that runs to it is wrapped and looped through gold hooks to the lampshade. Both the white and gold paint has been faded and I would like to spruce it up. Is it safe to spray paint it? I do not want to have to take it down and try to get the cord from the hoops. I would have to turn off the power to do that and I just do not want to do that if I do not have to. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Seimic Code for hanging light fixtures??
Does anyone know what the CA seismic code is for suspended light fixutres. I know they need to be able to swing a certain angle, but I'm not sure of the angle and how many directions it needs to be able to move. I think the angle is 45 degrees but I'm not sure about how many axes it must pivot on. Please help.
Is it safe and practical to hang light fixtures from a height of around 10 meters (30 feet)?
My friend has a lovely multi story house with an open stairwell arranged so that the dining area on the ground floor has 30 feet of open space directly above it. I suggested to her that she look into having a lighting fixture chandelier suspended a few feet above the dining table, but hanging from the ceiling 30 feet above. What I envision is 3 to 5 halogen lights, each at a somewhat different height, and each hanging separately from the others. That is, each with its own 30 foot cable from which it's suspended. So we're talking about very long cables here, each of which I'd like to be as thin as possible. Is this practical? Is there a need to be concerned about the fixtures swinging excessively, from minor perturbations? How about voltage drop across the cables? Should we be looking at low voltage 12V halogens? Thanks
