Can I convert a recessed light fixture to power a track light system?
My hallway has 5 recessed can lights each with a 75watt bulb operated on the same switch. I would like to install a 5 bulb halogen track light in the middle of the hallway to illuminate wall art. Can I remove the bulb and insert from the middle cannister fixture, cut the wires to the bulb receptacle and use the same wires to power up the track light. The track light with 5 bulbs will consume 150 watts through a low voltage transformer. Is this safe? The cannister light sticker says 75 watts maximum.

Is it safe to use rolled insulation around a recessed light fixture?
Doing searches on line, it looks like you normally need a 3 inch gap all around recessed lighting. However, on the Cooper Lighting Halo Air Tite fixtures that I'm installing, the instructions say " Fixture is designed for installation where it may come in direct contact with insulation" . So, it sounds safe, however, the rolled insulation I'm using says something like " Fire Hazard Keep this paper surface away from heat sources" . I'm pretty certain that the pink fiberglass stuff can make direct contact, but, I'm not so certain about the paper side.kravdraa, this is on new construction in my basement. I am putting insulation between the floors to help dampen the noise.I called Cooper Lighting who makes the fixture amazon.com Halo H7ICT 6 Inch Housing dp B0009J6CG8 and they confirm that contact with paper is ok.

I can't get the recessed light fixture back in the ceiling.?
I replace the light bulb in the recessed light fixture pot light and now cannot get the outer collar of the light fixture to stay back into the ceiling hole. Is there a trick to this? The only thing I can think of is to bend the clips that hold the inner collar of the fixture. You have to do that every time you take out the light and replace the bulb? Won't the clips snap off soon from being bent all the time?

Can you install a ordinary light fixture onto a recessed lighting fixture can?
I have house with recessed lighting installed and want to install a normal stand alone light fixture where one of the recessed lights currently is. Is it possible to use an adaptor of some kind to use the recessed lighting fixture, which is already anchored and wired, and attached the external fixture to the recessed lighting fixture? To start from scratch I think I would have to cut up my ceiling to remove the recessed light fixture and re anchor the new fixture which seems like a heck of a waist of time. Thanks UPDATE I found a company that makes an adaptor that lets you screw in an ordinary fixture into a recessed light housing. The only downside is the stupid little metal plate costs 40 bucks oh well.thecanconverter.com Thanks for everyone's help.Tim
